My Way of Being
I love being in relationship with people and with the earth. These relationships have taken me around the world to some of the most remote and fragile places. They have also taken me to centers of power where decisions are made that impact people and ecosystems on the margins everywhere.
No matter where the journey has taken me, I always experience awe emerging in me and the world around me. With a passion for social justice and care for the earth that brings peace, healing, and reconciliation, here are a few examples of people, places, and experiences that have kept me living in awe.
A few highlights
I was blessed to have a one-hour conversation with Pope Francis on his pastoral letter, Laudato Si’: On Care for Our Common Home; a foundational document of his papacy calling for all people of good will to love each other and the earth.
I joined with colleagues from an international multi faith coalition to meet the Executive Secretary of the UN body on Biodiversity to champion our faith voices as advocates for earth care.
I have traveled throughout Southeast Asia and Oceania. Wherever I went I met courageous women, men, and families who held fast to their faith and their culture to stay strong and united.
Living in Latin America, I shared life around intimate spaces like kitchen tables, community centers, and in parishes with women and young people who knew the struggles of poverty and exclusion.
With a view of the world from 30,000ft, I have seen entire forests cut down, rivers dried up, once snow-capped mountains now bare from global warming.
